The South West aspires to be a leader in sustainability - and there's lots of fantastic best practice to share (see Shaper Stories!) - but we still have some way to go.
When the Shaper was developed in 2006-7 a 'living' Action Framework was drafted against each of the South West's 10 sustainability Principles to:
- highlight the region's sustainability issues
- address 'gaps' in current activity and suggest sustainable solutions
- make recommendations for action
- invite support and commitment from partners
- explore indicators of progress
In other words, to highlight where more sustainable approaches are needed and to provide frameworks for action. Three years on the regional picture and policy framework is undergoing major changes and the Action Frameworks are currently under review.
