The Sustainability Shaper is an important sustainability tool and guide for the South West (find out more about the region here). The 'Shaper' is an update of our 'Regional Sustainable Development Framework' which Government asked all regions to produce in 1999 (see Background to the Shaper). It translates the national sustainable development strategy Securing the Future 'through the filter' of the region's particular sustainability priorities.
The Shaper exists to raise awareness, inform decision making and facilitate action on sustainability from the South West's public, private and voluntary sectors (as well as ‘individuals'). It includes the South West's sustainability Mission & Principles which are the basis of all its guidance. The Shaper supports action on sustainability from key agencies with Action Frameworks (one for each of its ten Principles) which set out the priority sustainability issues for the South West and make recommendations for action. The Action Frameworks need the support of regional and local partners to develop and be successful.
Your organisation can 'sign up' to the Shaper's Mission & Principles and become a named supporter of any of the ten Action Frameworks (you can do this as part of your feedback). To receive updates about new Shaper resources just click on the big purple button on the right to join up as a 'Shaper' (a registered user).
As a ‘living’ framework the Sustainability Shaper will evolve over time in response to feedback from users, commitment from partners and changes in the sustainability agenda. To start using the Shaper now, select a coloured tab from the top of the page or explore the modules, left.
